Ye-aah! I'm delighted to hear this news.
I've been to some of the other sites and they're just not the same as this place.
Just going to have a look at JWN now...
as i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

for everyone taking part in this years secret santa, here is the thread to post ideas about what you would like to receive.
this way when you get your name of who you are buying for you can come in here and look at what your person has posted.. .
BTW, how much are we supposed to be spending on this?
AFAIK the upper limit is $15.
the invitation to meetings was printed for july 2008 which means they had this planned and designed for months and months ahead of release.
here's the new invitation to the meetings mentioning only two of the days for meetings times.
Who prints that invite? Over here the congs seem to be responsible for printing their own. At least in my limited experience.
Btw, I don't recall ever giving one of these to anyone although I always carried some in my ministry bag.

I've got Steve Hassan's Combating Mind Control but would quite like to read Releasing the Bonds, if its not too pricey. Other than that, something from your locality like an ornament or craft-item or some cheap jewelry such as a necklace of some sort.
Well, anything would be nice really. This is all completely new for me.
it's horrible to see so many innocent people brutalized by terrorists.. new york's trains are the subject of possible terrorism, according to well placed sources.. when will it ever end?.
One of the many benefits of living in a very small town - no one's bothered blowing us up!
just wondering what the most unusual or flippant reasons are for people being booted from the cong.
i know the org makes out that almost everyone who is ousted is guilty of fornication but they're hardly going to say that people are leaving coz of all the lies, deceit and propoganda they spin!
if your "crime" was apostacy, what exactly happened?
Good for you Honesty! Making the most of the days before your DA becomes offical. And people will know the real reason why you've left instead of the loaded rumours that usually follow someone's exit from the dubs.
i remember when i was in my early teens finding out about a jw brother who was hitting his jw wife.
her parents were also witnesses and were disgusted with his behaviour (and rightly so).
i was completely shocked at the time, thinking those kinds of things just didn't happen among a loving brotherhood.
As some of you have already alluded to, the headship thing does spill over to abuse of kids sometimes too. Some of the stories of dv also mention the husband/father hitting the kids. I've noticed this among jws. Even when i was in, watching people hit their kids used to seriously upset me (i'm even getting those feelings now writing this!). It's nothing short of bullying.
I remember at one meeting, a visiting sister (who was a fleshly sister to someone in my cong) and her youngest child was there. I'm guessing the child was about 5 or 6 at the time. The child acted up, nothing major - just being a kid. The mother gave her an almighty whack that echoed around the hall and then picked the child up by the neck and dumped her on the chair! The sister is a childminder for other dub kids - comforting eh?! Of course, not a word was said to the sister after this although it shocked the hell out of quite a few of us.
The last assembley I was at, held at the beginning of the year, was on at a hotel so the staff were milling around as well as a few hundred dubs. I was in the loo and heard a woman berating her child as well as hitting it (hard by the volume of the noises). I expected the child to be about 7 or 8 by the way the woman was speaking to him but when she came out, I saw the child was no more than 2 years of age. I was sickened and was the closest I have ever been to hitting someone that day. Just so that horrible "Christian" woman knew what it felt like. I'll never forget that woman's face. She's a disgrace and I fear for that poor child. Although I blame the religion more than the person as I know what pressure and trying to get such a young child to sit still can do to someone.
As a child, a friend's father used to beat her and her brother with a slipper or a belt. If they really misbehaved, the buckle end of the belt was used. Sick!

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for relaying your story. It sounds like you really went through the mill and I'm sure it wasn't easy to write about it. I'm so happy that you met such a nice husband and were able to put the previous bad relationship behind you.

for me, my life as a jehovah's witness was tiring, depressing & miserable.
surrounded by negativity i felt utterly supressed & unhappy.
to carry out my 'responsibilties' became very difficult.
I was sick of being constantly told to do more, do more, do more. It was thru the pages of the mags, elders and others privately as well as said from the platform. It was cleverly labelled as evidence of "loving Jehovah". But what about the widow's mite? Guess the bible writers left out the bit where Jesus ran up to the woman and yelled "IS THAT ALL YOU'RE GIVING? DO YOU NOT APPRECIATE ALL THAT JEHOVAH HAS GIVEN YOU? UNGRATEFUL WENCH!"
Having seen their completely useless and rather arogant answers to Gladring's letters to them, I wouldn't waste my time. Nothing they say in a letter is going to make me go back so what's the point?
